A Support group is a group of people, who have the same problem such as suffering from the same disease or facing the same destiny such as having a disabled son or daughter, etc., coming together and creating a group in order to solve their problem with support. People in the group will support each other without any motivation or force from outside people.

Support group is different from group therapy in which some patients with common disease are grouped to solve problems related to that specific common disease, under supervision from health care professionals such as physician, nurse, psychologist, or social worker who motivates or supervises all activities in order to solve or ease or treat members’ disease in the group. Most of the diseases have a psychological component that requires the interaction between the patients and other people, that affect their healing directly.
